Day 6 : New friends found and old friends lost

One of the best aspects of sailing is the friends you meet along the way. To me the sailing fraternity has always been a close knit one where friendships deep and lasting are made. We value very much the new friends we make from within our crew, from other boats and from rallies like the ARC Europe.

So it was with shock and deep sadness that we learned yesterday of the sudden death of a dear friend and crew of Eclipse. Terry Digges, 59, died of a heart attack while driving his own boat in Scotland earlier this week. Terry was instrumental in helping Eclipse get from Texas to Florida at the beginning of this ARC Europe passage. Without his help, his experience and his enthusiasm we would not now be closing in on England.

We dedicate today's log entry to Terry's memory and wish him fair winds, calm seas and God speed on the next leg of his journey.
