Despite Heat Trout Bite Strong Mostly A Early Bite But Great
Fishing Report 7/13/09
This was a good week once we got rid of the west by southwest winds bumping 18 knots early in the week. I did move one trip this week and the rest went off great. We had some nice boxes early each morning by 9 am most the time. Sunday was a little slower for me than the rest of the week but I noticed the tide was a little slower also, but we still had a nice box of trout by 9 am to 23'. Ok for last week it was on a little bit everywhere. Big Hannas late in the week once the wind laid. Dollar and the Oyster Farm along with the rock pile was hot from the reports I got. Peppers was holding a few trout along with the New Reef and Deep Reef also.
We had our trout early most mornings and was heading in by 9 am. As you can see we came up a 4 trout short in the picture on the front page but we did have 26 trout by 8:30 am which is great in my book and many others. I look for things to stay on for some time the bay is in great shape from what I can see. The trout are still thick and in great health also. I have noticed a few shark showing up on the reefs here and there but that's par for the course for this time of year and not getting any rain to say of. We could use a little to keep the bay sweet and in good shape.
As for bait camps and ramps. Hornbecks is open and holding live shrimp and croakers and has bulk ice with plenty of parking and his ramps are open. Stingaree has their ramps open and being at the cut to East Bay makes for a short run for some great fishing. They have bait on weekends as of now the boats are getting rebuilt and should be up in a week or so. They also have the restaurant open Wednesday-Sunday for lunch and dinner and it has been great having them open again. The menu has changed a little but most of the good ole favorites are still on there. Blue Water bait camp off the intercoastal is back open and holding some nice shrimp and croaker. They are open around 5:30 am and is in the Bluewater sub-division or off the intercoastal in the dogleg between Sievers and Stingaree Cut. They are getting their ice machine up and running shortly and I will let you know when it's up. Curtis is doing a great job rebuilding the bait camp and will be in full swing before we know it.
Once again I am doing the "Bay Fishing Classes" for all. It's set up a little different than the ones I started with, it covers more. Mainly concentrated around East Bay it now covers parts of Galveston Bay from the Galveston Causeway Bridge across the Dike to East Bay and from around April Fools Pt. to Smith Point and all of East Bay back to Roll Over Pass. Like before this is a no holds bar class with G.P.S. locations given for fishing locations. We cover it all from baits, fishing methods, presentation and all. We can also build a class to cover the needs for anyone. Call and I'll go over the class structure and times. This is a one on one for all unless you set up a group of up to 4 or 5, discounts are given for groups of more than 2, and these classes are given in the mornings or afternoons week days or weekends. Call for more info. Well I better get for this week
