Only you know the real answer to the question. One of the biggest hurdles we have to overcome in an emergency situation is panic. Training certainly plays a big part in increasing confidence and thereby reducing panic and again, only you really know how well trained you are.
The Kemah Portal has assembled a sound file and text checklist of some of the key steps that may assist you in an emergency situation. It is not a substitute for sound seamanship and training but it is another tool alongside the First Aid kit, the radio and the GPS. Please download the file and put it on (or have the kids do it for you!) your iPod or Mp3 player or on a CD to play in the stereo. The idea is to provide some calm suggestions that will be helpful in an emergency. Better yet, use it to practice and let us know how to improve it.
